It’s fall in Kitchener and the mercury is dropping quickly. Your old furnace may be on its last leg and you might be thinking you’re going to switch to high efficiency natural gas heating. If you don’t have a gas line to your house, you should know that Kitchener Utilities has just announced a $1000 plus HST “Frost Charge” for gas lines being installed between December 15th and March 31st. All applications received by the Utility after November 15th with be subject to this extra charge.
The reason for the extra costs is the frost, typically in the ground during the winter months, makes it much more expensive to install a gas line to your house. Kitchener Utilities is no longer subsidizing the cost of the installation and is passing on this extra cost to you, the homeowner.
If you’re sitting on the fence wondering whether you’re going to change your oil furnace or electric heating system to gas, decide quickly, so we can get your application in before the 15th of November. Otherwise, be prepared to shell out an extra $1130 (with HST), or wait until April to do the change.
