When many of us think of seasonal allergies we think of spring and all the pollen, nectar, and growing plants that come with it. However, for some, autumn allergies can be just as intrusive and intense as spring allergies! If you are like many Canadians who get the sniffles in the autumn, you can really benefit from these next few HVAC tips to help diminish fall allergies!
Keep Your Floors Clean
You’d be surprised how much your floors (even hardwood and tile) can contribute to your allergy discomfort. A lot of allergens can be tracked into your home on the bottoms of your shoes and can fester in your rugs and flooring. For the cleanest and most allergy-free home possible during the fall, don’t wear shoes indoors and give your floors and carpets a good vacuum weekly.
Clean Out Your Floor Vents
Out of all of our HVAC tips for fall allergies, this one is the most overlooked. Floor vents are easily blocked by hair, dirt, and small objects and can become a place for allergens and other bacteria to fester. To improve your air quality, every thirty days or so take a moment to unblock your vents from any hair or dust, and if you have pets or small children you may want to clean your vents even more frequently!
Change Your Filter Regularly
All of the air flowing through your home must go through your furnace’s air filter first. If your filter is full of dust, fur, hair, and other allergens, your air quality is going to be affected and you’ll notice a significant decrease in air quality and an increase in seasonal allergies. By checking your furnace filter every 30 days and replacing it at least every 90 days, you’re ensuring the best air quality possible and diminishing the allergens in the air.
Schedule Regular Maintenance
The best HVAC tip for fall allergies is to simply trust the experts and schedule annual maintenance on your system. By booking annual maintenance in the fall, you’re making sure that your furnace is working its best throughout the fall and winter, and you’re ensuring that you have the best possible air quality for your home, successfully diminishing the allergens in the air and keeping you more comfortable in your home.
