Change Your Clocks and Change Your Batteries

smoke alarm

On November 7th, Daylight Savings Time (DST) ends and we turn back time to “gain” an extra hour. While most of our digital devices will automatically update, many wall clocks and other electronics will have to be adjusted manually. When you take the time to update the time on your clocks, you should also take the opportunity to change the batteries in your smoke alarm.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs endorses the Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries campaign to remind homeowners the importance of having working smoke alarms in their homes.

Did You Know?
In 36% of Ontario residential fires resulting in a fatality, there was no smoke alarm warning? Half of the homes had no smoke alarm, while the other half had a smoke alarm that was not operational.*  Many times, people let batteries die in their smoke alarms — rendering them useless during an emergency.

Change Batteries Twice a Year
To ensure your family’s safety, smoke alarm batteries should be changed every six months. When you sync changing batteries with the time change, you can help ensure that your smoke alarm will always be operational when you need it most. If you have a battery-powered carbon monoxide detector, make sure to change those batteries as well.

Delta Air Systems wants you and your family to live in a comfortable and safe home. We hope all our clients will take a moment at the end of Daylight Savings to change the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
