At Delta Air Systems, it’s important to us that our customers understand our work so that they can better recognize the value we provide. That’s why we think it’s good for our customers to understand some of the various air conditioner parts.
Our expert staff is great at explaining necessary repairs, maintenance tasks or installations, but it always makes things a little easier for our customers when they understand the terminology. Knowing what is happening with your system will allow you to ensure that with or without Delta Air Systems, you’re getting competitively priced, trustworthy service.
So, to help any of our curious customers, we’ve created a list of air conditioner parts that will help you get the most out of your AC service.
Blower Motor: The driving force behind the air that keeps you comfortable. This is blower in the furnace or air handler which is usually in your basement. There’s usually a filter right next to it.
Compressor: The compressor circulates the refrigerant in the system under pressure. It is the main component of the AC system.
Condensation Drain Pipe: Air conditioners remove humidity from your home in the form of condensation. This occurs in the coil installed in the furnace or air handler. It collects in a drain pan and either drains by gravity to a floor drain or laundry tub, or perhaps to a small condensate pump that directs the water to household drain.
Condenser Coil: This is the part people are most familiar with, it’s basically the walls of your outdoor unit (condenser). This is where the compressor and condenser fan reside.
Ductless: An air conditioning system also known as a mini or multi-split. It does not use conventional supply and return ducting and vents, and instead uses one or several indoor units to add greater efficiency and control.
Evaporator Coil: Your evaporator coil is indoors and is installed with whatever circulates your air. Inside the coil, refrigerant from the system evaporates as it absorbs heat from the indoor air that passes over it.
Expansion Valve (TXV): This controls the flow of refrigerant.
Filter: Your main filter will be in your furnace. They help reduce the amount of dirt, debris and allergens that enter your home through this system.
Furnace: You know what a furnace is, but many people are unaware that your furnace blower fan still runs in the summer. It circulates the air throughout your home.
Register: Also known as a grille. This is where the air comes out, or goes back into the duct system.
Supply and return Air Ducts: These are the highways for your air to travel throughout your home.
